The Appalachian Trail was featured recently in the Robert Redford – Nick Nolte movie, A Walk in the Woods, based on the bestselling book of the same name by Bill Bryson. Join us as David Ryan shares photographs and illustrations of the Appalachian Trail and describes what it is like to spend five or six months on the Trail. According to Ryan, a long distance hike is as much of a lifestyle as it is a hike.
David Ryan has hiked the entire Appalachian Trail and is the author of Long Distance Hiking on the Appalachian Trail for the Older Adventurer and other walking books. He moved to New Mexico after hiking the Appalachian Trail and has remained involved in the outdoors as a volunteer for the Bureau of Land Management. He returns to the Appalachian Trail occasionally for shorter hikes.
