David Ryan, the author of Wandering in the Clear Light of New Mexico and coauthor of the 3rd Edition of 60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Albuquerque (both books are available at Travel Bug), has also walked three separate Camino de Santiago routes: the Camino Frances from St. Jean Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela in Spain; the Camino Podiensis from LePuy-en-Veley (in France) to St. Jean Pied-de-Port; and the Voie de Tours from Paris to Chartres Cathedral and from Tours (in France) to Pons (in France).
Each walk was a completely different experience from the other! He will be sharing his experience with us at Travel Bug at 5:00pm on Saturday, December 5, 2026.
Although most of the talk will focus on the Voie de Tours, he will cover the other routes – on how they differ and what to expect to help you in your Camino planning.
The Voie de Tours is one of the oldest Camino routes and was very popular in the Middle Ages. Today it is one of the lesser used Camino routes! It begins in the heart of Paris and runs through southwest France all the way to St. Jean Pied-de-Port to connect with the Camino Frances. Along the way it wanders through abundant farmland and passes through some of the most historic regions of France. You’ll walk by dolmens from the Neolithic, Roman Ruins including an Aqueduct and Coliseum, and incredible Romanesque and Gothic churches and cathedrals.
With the Voie de Tours being one of the lesser used Camino routes, it opens you up to a very quiet and contemplative experience to make it a very special walk!
